Hanthana Mountains -Kandy


Famous among local climbers hanthana can be seen from Kandy dressed in mist. A great place to go when you are in Kandy.

Hunnasgiriya Mountain

A fascinating mountain of Knuckles Range is climbers paradise with it's ecology, water streams and surrounding scenes.

Batalegala Mountain

Named as Bible Rock by Europeans this fascinating mountain is seen from Kadugannwa pass on the Kandy Colombo Road. Situated in Aranayaka ecologically important area in central hills.

Mihintale

This sacred mountain peak was where Arahat Mahinda Thro met King Devanapiyatiss which change the History of Sri Lanka to establish Buddhism

Sigriya

Sigiriya is a giant rock peak where King Kashayapa build his citadel and now a world heritage and declared as worlds eighth wonder. Sigiriya frescos and Ancient architectural master pieces of Sri Lankans are the main attractions in Sigiriya.

World's End

One of the attractions of Horton plains is world’s end where one could see the fall to the Tea states down bellow. You can see a dramatic drop of 1312m from world end and a fantastic view of the surrounding hills and the mountain ranges wreathed in mists and clouds and on clear days even the Indian Ocean which is about 81 km to the south is visible.

Totupala Mountain

Totupala Mountain is Third highest summit of Sri Lanka. Totupala Mountain is high 2357m above sea level. This mountain is situated on the part of Horton plains. Travel to Totupala is very different because there are no ways to travel. Some times can be travel via foot path from Horton Plains and Pattipola road. Those foot paths are made by traveling animals.In Totupala mountain area can be seen various type of plants, animals and birds and endemic varieties also. Lot of (out of 26) birds are endemic to Sri Lanka can be seen in there. Another meaning of Totupala is Bird Paradise. Most tourists use this mountain for see birds. Not only endemic birds but also foreign birds also we can be seen in some periods of year in this place. In evening can be seen large amount deer in this place. And also Tiger and other some animals, Binara and Marathmal type of endemic flowers, Horn leopard type of endemic beings we can see these.

Gongala Mountain

Situated in Rakwana mountain range Gongala is a great place for an eco experience of Sinharaja. From west side you can see the Sinharaja Rain Forest Mountains and Canopy. The Northern and Eastern side will show you Rakwana and Balangoda as well as Udawalawe forest in the distance. The Southside view if most spectacular ranges the views to matara the sea town of south. The Drive to the mountain to is breathtaking.

Knuckles Mountain

The Knuckles Mountain Range lies in central Sri Lanka, north-east of the city of Kandy. The range takes its name from a series of recumbent folds and peaks in the west of the massif which resemble the knuckles of clenched fist when viewed from certain locations in the Kandy District. The entire area is characterized by its striking landscapes often robed in thick layers of cloud but in addition to its aesthetic value the range is of great scientific interest. It is a climatic microcosm of the rest of Sri Lanka. The conditions of all the climatic zones in the country are exhibited in the massif. At higher elevations there is a series of isolated cloud forests, harboring a variety of flora and fauna, some of which cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Although the range constitutes approximately 0.03% of the island’s total area it is home to a significantly higher proportion of the country’s biodiversity.

Haputhale Mountain

Haputale mountain Badulla District, Sri Lanka.It’s elevation is 1431 m (4695 ft) above the sea level. The area has a rich bio-diversity dense with numerous varieties of flora and fauna. The town has a cooler climate than its surroundings, due to its elevation. The Haputale pass allows views across the Southern plains of Sri Lanka. The South-West boundary of Uva basin is marked by the Haputale mountain ridges, which continue on to Horton Plains and Adam's Peak to the west.

Namunukula Mountain


Namunukula Mountain is very important mountain of Sri Lanka and which is situated border of Badulla and Monaragala Districts and main mountaon of Badulla situation. There are main two entrances to enter Namunukula Mountain. Namunukula is at Passara. Passara is provincial Division of Badulla district. If you like to travel Namunukula first you should come to Passara place. Then you can climb to top of the Namunukula Mountain. Namukula is one of best mountains in Sri Lanka for an eco adventure. From above you could see the flat plane of eastern forests that include Udawalawe and Yala.

Sri Pada (Mountain of Butterflies)

This is the only mountain in the world where 4 major religions get together & worship. For the Buddhist, the imprint found on the summit of the mountain is the hallowed footprint of the Lord Buddha. Hence they call “SriPada”. For the Hindus, the footprint is that of God Shiva. For the Christians, it is the footprint of St. Thomas, and for the Islam, it is the foot print of Adam, hence the title “Adam’s Peak”. Another name given by Sinhalese is “Samanala Kanda” meaning Butterfly Mountain due to the fleet of butterflies fling around with the start of the season.
It is 2243m in height above the sea level and about 27km (16 miles) from bottom to the top by foot or 14.4km (9 miles) by vehicle and 12km (7 miles) by foot to the top of the pointed peak.

Sri Lanka's highest mountain which is about 8200 feet above sea level, it will take you through some exciting and anxious moments because of it's difficulty in getting to the top, but the climb is worth your effort, because it will take you through some beautiful scenery that one won't forget. One will come across beautiful small waterfalls, because many waterfalls begin from this mountain.

Diyaluma Waterfall of Sri Lanka

Diyaluma Waterfall is Sri Lanka’s most beautiful waterfall and which is situated at Koslanda. It is third highest waterfall in Sri Lanka. It is about 171m in height. Visit Diyaluma is very easy because Diyaluma waterfall is at main road. Most tourists are like very much to visit this waterfall.
Diyaluma is said Sri Lankan no 1 and most beautiful waterfall because it has various qualities. This waterfall is very high & carries higher capacity of water come from the top. Then water hits the rock millions of times & water way breaks many times. Mix with wind the waterfall like angel.

Dunhinda Waterfall of Sri Lanka


 Dunhinda waterfall is biggest waterfall in Sri Lanka . Dunhinda waterfall is made by jump water with high gap of Badulu River. Dunhinda Falls is at Badulla - Mahiyangana road and there are about 10km from Badulla town. The falls is 1km faraway from Badulla – Mahiyangana main road. There are some small waterfall closed to walking way identifies as small Dunhinda waterfalls.
Dunhinda waterfall is one of the beautiful waterfalls in Sri Lanka. In several years ago Badulla town is a large valley. In that time Dunhinda waterfall was not present. Big Vine was blocked the way of Badulu River and there fore the city had become a big Valley. The man called Ranhawadi Dhuraya aspect to remove this vine. He tried several time to remove it. How ever whiting several months he could cut off the whole vine and he died within sleep. After removing the Vine water moves down with spreading. Then the Large and beautiful waterfall was born and it is called as Dunhinda.

Laxapana Waterfall of Sri Lanka


Laxapana waterfalls at closed to Hatton and Laxapana Valley. Laxapana falls is 8th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka & this waterfall is about 115m higher. Laxapana valley is very famous water valley of Sri Lanka and which is supported to provide national Electricity of Sri Lanka. Maskeliya oya is main water source of Laxapana waterfall.

There is a another waterfall called Rawan ella at downside of Bomburu waterfalls. Some known as that it Bomburu falls. Ravan Ella waterfalls is at Uduhawara place. This fall is very higher and Way to this fall from Uduhawara junction. Rawan ella falls is related to the atories of Rama and Ravana.

Bomburuella Waterfall of Sri Lanka

Bomburuella waterfall is on of the very beautiful waterfall in Sri Lanka. It is situated at very beautiful place & it’s height about 50m. Some people known this waterfalls as the Perawella falls but real name is Bomburu waterfalls.

The waterfall is situated in rural area. Several vegetable lands and potatoes cultivated chena are available closed to Bomburuwaterfalls. This waterfall is very wider waterfall and it consist several waterfalls get together.

Bambarakanda Waterfall (highest) of Sri Lanka


Bambarakanda waterfall is highest waterfall of Sri Lanka and which is situated at Haldumulla Electorate of Badulla district. The waterfall is high about 241meters. The water fallen down with high rock and knock other rocks increase the beauty of this fall. Water comes to this fall is from Horton place and after that this water goes to the Samanala wawa (means the valley looks like a butterfly).
There are some waterfalls closed to Bambarakanda falls. Those are Bambarakanda Ella, Lanka Ella, Uduwara Ella and  Nagadowa Ella. There are several mini waterfalls also available. They are also beautiful but not higher than Bambarakanda & not famous.

Bakers Waterfall of Sri Lanka
Baker's waterfall is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Sri Lanka. This waterfall is height about 22 meters. Bakers Falls is situated at Horton Place in Sri Lanka. The falls is at closed to the border of Badulla, Nuwaraeliya and Rathnpura districts and really in Nuwaraeliya district.
The fall is very beautiful because various corners and various views show different beautiful sceneries. The waterfall looks like a step view. On the top side of the fall is like a long pool. There is a point at fall which divides more than thousand of parts and made beautiful scenery in middle of the fall. Below the middle part there has another waterfall available. It is also very beautiful. Include all things and fall become to most beautiful waterfall in Sri Lanka

Value of Matale

 Aluvihara rock monastery
Aluvihara rock monastery is beside the Kandy-Dambulla road, 3 km north of Matale. The monastery caves are situated among rocks that have fallen from the mountains. It is an extremely picturesque setting. One of the monastic caves contains horror chamber.

Aluvihara; Luminous Cave Temple is synonymous with the teaching of the Buddha. Aluvihara rightly assumes its significance in the annals of the history of world Buddhism. It is in this very location that the ThipiĊ£aka (Sermon of lord buddah) was documented on palm-leaves. “Assembled the priests, who here compared their texts, which were then, or soon afterwards, committed to writing, and form the Banapotha or Buddhist Bible”. This took place about ninety-two years of B.C.
Knuckles Mountain

This mountain range is covered Kandy to Matale district. Riverstan Mountain which is very beautiful area of Sri Lanka also part of the Knuckles. Several mountains are get together final out put is called Knuckles. Several Hiking tours are available in this area.
This area is very much rural in Sri Lanka. Historical and bio diversity value of this area is very high. Several endemic fauna and flora types can be identified in this area. Almost time mist covered the whole mountain. Temperature of the mountain is very low. High speed wing flows available in top of the mountain. Rainfall is lies between 2000 – 3000ml. Sudu Ganga River is started from this mountain.

Matale is very famous for tea plantation. There are number of tea states in matale , raththota, elkaduwa & kabaragala areas.

Sri Lanka is one of waterfall paradises of the world. Sri Lanka has many waterfalls. There are several beautiful waterfalls at Matale district.
